Will you go even if dangerous?

Honduras has the honor of being one of the most violent countries in the world in these last years. Having the highest per capita murder rate on the planet: 600 homicides in a month, 20 deaths in a day, more than 7000 in a year… According to a recent UN report which places Honduras as one of the most dangerous countries on the planet with the highest homicide rate per capita, along with El Salvador, Mexico and the Ivory Coast.

These statistics vary and are taking a decrease as the country has enforced it's military on the streets. With recent elections and a president whom reelected himself, segregates the country into more corruption. Corruption seems to be everywhere and easily controlled. A flowing river that when you turn the corner you are surprised with another tragedy. Honduras has such an opportunity to thrive and become a country of honor and dignity but corruption has an anchor that can't break free. Or can it?

I have had the privilege of meeting wonderful people throughout the country. for the most part your average person is living day to day trying to make ends meet. It's the gangs and government that bring a spoiled egg to the picture. Honduras being the highway for drugs into America, racks in millions for the corrupt parties at be and allows for more corruption to creep in because greed has now become an icon for so many. Most of the Honduran culture is beautiful. The children are beautiful and are the ones who will suffer.

Saying all that to say this. We can make a difference. Yes we are Americans but this world has been given to us. I believe we have a responsibility to bring peace, help and comfort to each other to make our world a better place for tomorrow.

The word of the Lord came to Jonah with the command to preach against the wickedness of Nineveh, the capital of the Assyrian Kingdom ( Jonah 1:1-2). Nineveh was a city that was very dangerous with a wicked king not making it any safer for the people. God gave Jonah a command to go to this city. His rebellion eventually dragged him there. As for Honduras it's no different than any other place. NYC, Chicago, New Orleans, Baltimore and many cities across America. You see my point? Problems exist every where. Death, murderer, hunger, suffering, etcetera. Do we run from doing what God has called us to do? No. We follow God's map that He has laid out for us. And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation (Mark 16:15). No matter where God has led us we have the awesome responsibility to present the good news. Through that we will be able to comfort those in such desperate need. To provide resources and help that is required for ones success.

Honduras is not the safest country but it's an opportunity. Will you go even if dangerous?

Jonah, also discovered that no one can run from God.
